This is our 2nd rendition of DANK and it is a fantastic coffee from Jericó, Colombia. An origin near and dear to our hearts. This coffee went through an experimental honey process, where the coffee cherries were hand selected, placed in a grain pro bag and tightly sealed to prevent any contact with oxygen. After 120 hours, the cherries were de-pupled, lightly washed and sundried for 12-14 days.
With each rendition of DANK the goal is simple, to deliver a delicious & sweet espresso. We approach the roast differently when the intention is to use a coffee for espresso. This particular Red Honey was roasted on the medium side to draw out intrinsic flavors like apple pie and brown sugar. This resulted in a well balanced super funky & deliciously DANK espresso.
This year a portion of the proceeds from the sale of DANK will go to benefit FAMM (Families Against Mandatory Minimums). So, what exactly are mandatory minimums? Mandatory minimum sentences — set by Congress, not judges, require automatic, minimum prison terms for certain crimes. Most mandatory minimum sentences apply to drug offenses, but Congress has also enacted them for other crimes. In the 1980’s Congress enacted mandatory minimum sentences for drug crimes, causing federal prison populations to skyrocket with nonviolent drug offenders. By tying judges’ hands, mandatory minimums essentially took power away from judges and gave it to prosecutors, who could then threaten to charge defendants with crimes that would trigger a mandatory minimum. We believe our country can do better, and it starts with ending the war on drugs.
