Our award winning (two Golden Bean awards) single origin espresso has made it’s triumphant return! Our farm partner, Jose Daniel Cobilt, who we first met at a coffee auction in Oaxaca, Mexico in 2016 has once again brought us a show stopper of a coffee. DANK is a taste profile we created specifically for espresso, however it is a versatile coffee that can be brewed using many different brew methods. A medium body coffee that is sweet and bright with balanced notes of chocolate, caramel and green apple. Clean, balanced, and most notably DANK.
This year a portion of the proceeds from the sale of DANK will go to benefit FAMM (Families Against Mandatory Minimums). So, what exactly are mandatory minimums? Mandatory minimum sentences — set by Congress, not judges, require automatic, minimum prison terms for certain crimes. Most mandatory minimum sentences apply to drug offenses, but Congress has also enacted them for other crimes. In the 1980’s Congress enacted mandatory minimum sentences for drug crimes, causing federal prison populations to skyrocket with nonviolent drug offenders. By tying judges’ hands, mandatory minimums essentially took power away from judges and gave it to prosecutors, who could then threaten to charge defendants with crimes that would trigger a mandatory minimum. We believe our country can do better, and it starts with ending the war on drugs.
