Anabel Chavez is back for a 2nd year! This coffee founds its way to us by chasing waves in Oaxaca Mexico in 2019. Our founder/green buyer cupped it with our export partner Thomas while on a surf trip to Oaxaca, specifically Salina Cruz. These surf trips typically involve coffee sourcing, as the coffee belt and the surfing belt are pretty much one in the same. Thomas met him at the surf lodge where he was staying and together they cupped through about 30 samples (all from Mexico, and mostly Oaxaca). The goal was to purchase a high scoring coffee and if possible, purchase coffee from a female producer.
This coffee is grown in Mazateca, the same region as our beloved Crème coffee Gloria. In 2019 we decided to intentionally purchase from more women producers whenever possible. This wasn't a hard choice, Anabel's coffee is super juicy and memorable; a bright, vibrant, balanced, and sweet cup. A more lively cup than most Mexican coffees we’ve had - it’s almost sparkling in its sweet vibrancy. This year we didn't have to go to Mexico to buy this coffee but boy would we have liked to! Oaxaca, the place of waves, coffee & mezcal. If you haven’t been, we highly recommend it.
