What many people don’t know is that El Salvador was devastated during their civil war from 1980-1990 and the Izotal community was one of the hardest hit. Members of our own communities, especially in Hyattsville were directly impacted by that civil war.
Our head roaster, Franklin Ventura, is from El Salvador and in 2019 he made it his mission to source a phenomenal Salvadorian coffee. Eventually, Franklin connected with producer Jorge Rubio, a direct trade coffee entrepreneur with a company that assists farmers in producing specialty coffee. Some of what they do to assist farms is technical assistance, tech transfer, organic foliars for maintaining healthy plants, assistance prior & post-harvest to improve and innovate fermentation and drying processes. By connecting with Jorge we have been able to directly purchase incredible Salvadorian coffees that we believe are some of the very best in the world. But we’ll let you be the judge of that!
